How can I participate?

There are many ways to participate:

  1. Register a team and become the team captain.
  2. Register and join a team as a player. Please note, a team captain needs to send you an invitation.
  3. Sponsor a player or a team with a donation.
  4. Sign on as a corporate sponsor.
  5. Volunteer at the event.

Who is eligible to play in the tournament?

Players must be 25 years of age or older to play in the tournament. Teams must have a minimum of 11 to a maximum 17 players. Teams may have a coach, a manager, an equipment manager, and other non-playing members (optional). Teams must raise a combined minimum of $25,000 through individual or corporate donations by game day to participate in the tournament.

How do I register for 2015 tournament?

Registration is easy. Simply click here and follow the easy instructions to register.

Is there a registration fee?

Yes, at the time of registration there is $199 fee to join as a player. This fee contributes to the cost of the ice, uniforms (including team jersey), draft night, prizes and complimentary food and refreshments during the tournament. In the event of a cancellation, the registration fee will become a donation and a tax receipt will then be issued for that amount.

Where will proceeds from the 2015 tournament go?

Proceeds from the 2015 Scotiabank Hockey for Alzheimer’s tournament will support the Alzheimer Society of B.C. in providing programs and support services for families in B.C. who face dementia. Funds raised will also support valuable research into causes and potential cures. To learn more please visit www.alzheimerbc.org.

Can my family and friends come and watch the tournament?

Everyone who makes a $100 donation to a player or team will receive a day pass for the weekend tournament so make sure you let everyone know you’re fundraising as part of your hockey experience!

What if I’ve never fundraised before?

Once you register for the event you will be guided through the set-up of an online fundraising page. This makes it easy for you to send an e-mail to your family and friends letting them know you’d like their support. Be sure to let them know that they will automatically receive a donation tax receipt. If they make the minimum donation of $100, they will also receive a day pass to the tournament. The Society is also here to help so if you have any questions about fundraising or your personal fundraising page, just call Patricia Gooch, Development Coordinator, at 604-742-4925.

Who can win rewards and prizes?

Teams and individual players can earn incredible rewards and prizes throughout the year. The 2015 Scotiabank Hockey for Alzheimer’s tournament team will be sending out reminders and updates to players, outlining these incentives via regular e-mails in the lead-up to the event.

Does my personal fundraising count towards my team total as well?

Yes! Your personal fundraising dollars will count towards your team’s overall total as well. The more you raise, the more prizes both you and your teammates are eligible for and the better chance your team has at a higher draft pick.

How do I solicit donations online?

Once you have registered and logged into your personal 2015 Scotiabank Hockey for Alzheimer’s tournament fundraising page, please select the “Solicit Sponsors” tab on the left side of the screen and follow the easy online guide.

What do I do with my offline credit card, cheque or cash donation?

Although we accept offline donations, please encourage your donors to sponsor you online. In the event that you do receive cash or cheques, simply log on to your personal web page and click on the “Download offline sponsor form.” Please fill out the form and mail the offline donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. at 300 – 828 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2.

Please ensure that all cheques are made out to “Alzheimer Society of B.C.” and that your name, as well as the sponsored participant (if different) is noted on the cheque and on the form. Please do not place cash in the mail. Instead, you can send a personal cheque in the amount of all cash donations or use a credit card to pay offline cash donations online through your personal fundraising page by going to “Manage Cash & Cheque.” For additional assistance please contact Patricia Gooch, Development Coordinator at 604-742-4925.

What is the Gordie Howe & Friends Luncheon?

The Gordie Howe & Friends Luncheon, held on Friday, November 13, 2015, is the best way to say thank you to corporate sponsors in an intimate setting with NHL Alumni. Each table will have a NHL Alumni and there will be an entertaining “Hot Stove” with several Alumni.

Who can attend the Gordie Howe & Friends Luncheon?

All sponsors that purchase a Championship ($25,000) or Hall of Fame ($10,000) package will receive a table at this amazing event. Sponsors that purchase a MVP ($5,000) package will receive four tickets to this event, and those who purchase an All Star ($2,500) package will receive two tickets. For companies that would like to be involved in this event but are not interested in putting a team on ice, the Gordie Howe & Friends Luncheon is the perfect introduction. It provides them with a unique hosting opportunity while supporting a very worthwhile cause.

How can I attend the 2015 tournament if I am not a player or a corporate sponsor?

If you are not a participant or a corporate sponsor, you can still enjoy the exciting 2015 Scotiabank Hockey for Alzheimer’s tournament. For a $100 donation to the 2015 Scotiabank Hockey for Alzheimer’s, you will receive a one-day tournament pass to come out and cheer for your favourite teams and NHL Alumni.
